  14. A friend of mine has recently bought a pentium 90 MHz machine running 
  15. win95. The following peripherals were installed:
  16. 1. Creative Lab Modem Blaster 14.4
  17. 2. Creative Lab Sound Blaster sound card 
  18. 3. Joystick interface card
  19. 4. MS serial mouse(on com1)
  20. 5. Video card

  22. He hasn't been able to use the modem to dial at all. The modem simply 
  23. does not response. Win95 has detected the modem on com4 and response ok.
  24. MSD at c:\ prompt on the contrary indicates com4 does not exist. I tried 
  25. to install AOL on his machine but the setup program could not 
  26. find and initialize the modem at all. Even after we installed the program 
  27. anyways, it just won't dial. I once succeeded dialing in but it never 
  28. made it to the new user registration screen and the system just sat there 
  29. forever. I also tried hyperterm, but it does not dial at all. I wonder if 
  30. there is a conflict between the serial mouse and the modem. When I 
  31. rebooted the system, win95 "found" a new hardware and installed ps/2 
  32. mouse driver which does not function at all.
  33. I really want to help him out of this problem because he knows nothing 
  34. about pc, neither do I.
